Informal education is the obvious by-product, but formal education through online study is increasingly becoming a viable way to learn and earn an advanced degree. This is especially attractive for those who got a bachelors degree and then went off to build their career. Along the way, many have started families and thus have ensnarled themselves in a kind of web that will not release them to return to campus to pursue a graduate degree. Their responsibilities to family and keeping their salary flowing makes it impossible to escape this web. So let the Web (WWW) release you from that lesser web or career and family. By enrolling in an online masters program from a fully accredited university, you can keep your job and family life, yet squeeze coursework into your free hours at home, for example. You may not finish the program in a year, but stuck in that web without the use of the Web you’ll never get to pursue the upgrading that you need to advance your career. So let the World Wide Web bring the campus to you.

You might want to know more about the Master of Science degree in Human Resources that is offered as an online study program. Trust your instincts. If you think, your child has disabilities in certain areas trust yourself. No one knows your child like you do, and you are the best judge of what will help your child learn. It is my experience that special education personnel may try and tell you that your instincts are wrong, but only accept this, if there is concrete evidence to back it up. You are the only advocate that your child has, and they are depending on you to advocate for needed related and special education services.

2. Important educational issues need to be handled by letters not telephone calls or e mails, so that you can begin developing a paper trail for documentation, you may need in the future, to help you in a dispute with special education personnel. As far as sending e-mails to special education personnel, I do not like to use e-mail, as e-mails are kept in an electronic record, and not in the child's written educational record.

If you have a verbal conversation with school personnel and want to document the conversation, you can always write a short letter to the person that you had the conversations with. Try and keep the letter to one page, date it, and give a summary of the conversation. Also, keep a copy for yourself.

3. If special education personnel say something that does not sound right to you, ask them: "Please show me in writing where in Federal or State law it states you have the right to do what you want to do or not do what I asked you to do to benefit my child's education." In my opinion, this is one of the most important advocacy skills that parents need to learn, because of the amount of misinformation that is given to parents. If school personnel cannot show you in writing from Federal or State law where it states they have the right to do something or do not have to do something you asked them to do, you know that they are not being truthful.

Use the same procedure if school personnel state that they have to do something, or cannot do something because it is school policy-ask to see the policy in writing, and also ask for a transcript of the board meeting where the policy was passed.

4. If your school district evaluates your child for disabilities and states that your child does not have any disabilities (even though you believe they do), and is not eligible for special education services, you have the right to an Independent Educational Evaluation (IEE) at public expense (which means that the school district pays for it). You must disagree with the school's evaluation, (could be over the actual testing, the areas tested, the interpretation of the testing, the findings and conclusion of the testing, etc) to be able to receive and obtain an IEE at public expense.

5. Educate yourself on all laws related to special education and disabilities and requirements so that when your school district tries to say things that are not truthful, you have the information to stand up to them, for the benefit of your child. Learn about State Complaints, Mediation and Due Process to help you resolve any disputes that you have with special education personnel.

By following my top five tips you will well be on your way to successfully advocating for needed services for your child!

JoAnn Collins is the mother of two adults with disabilities, and has helped families navigate the special education system, as an advocate, for over 15 years. Do you wonder what the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) states is the schools responsibility, to provide transportation for your child? This article will discuss what IDEA requires as far as transportation for your child with a disability. Also discussed are parenting tips that you can use, to help your child receive this important service.

Under IDEA transportation is considered a related service. A related service is transportation, developmental, corrective, and other services. . .as may be required to assist a child with a disability to benefit from special education. . .
What this means is that if your child requires transportation in order to benefit from their education, special education personnel are required to provide it.

Parenting Tips:

1. When advocating for your child, remember that; transportation not only means to and from school, but also in and around the school building, and any specialized equipment required by your child.

2. Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act prevents discrimination on the basis of disability. The law reads: No qualified student shall on the basis of handicap, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or otherwise be subjected to discrimination under any . . .transportation. . .or activity.

For Example: Your child with a physical disability is not allowed to go on a field trip, because the class cannot get the wheelchair bus. This would be a section 504 complaint, because your child is being discriminated against, on the basis of their disability. I have dealt with this situation, and the school district usually quickly fixes the transportation problem, if you tell them that you may file a Section 504 complaint. Section 504 is covered by the Office of Civil Rights in Washington, though each state has at least one office.

3. If your child requires an assistant in the classroom then you may be able to get a bus assistant, if your child's disability requires it. The goal of transportation as a related service is to provide safe access to education. So if your child needs a bus assistant in order to get safely to school, school personnel are required to provide it.

4. If your school district is not providing needed transportation for your child, you can be reimbursed, for providing the transportation yourself. Make sure that your child's IEP, states that they need transportation as a related service, and that you will be reimbursed.

A district may also be required to reimburse parents where:

A. Transportation is needed to provide FAPE and the district fails to meet its obligation.
B. The district doesn't recognize the need for transportation.
C. The district makes inadequate provisions for transportation.

5. If your child's extracurricular activity is related to their IEP goals and objectives, then transportation must be given. For Example: If your child has autism and needs to work on social skills, they can gain that from extra curricular activities. In that case transportation needs to be given by your school district.

6. School districts are not allowed to shorten your child's school day due to transportation. Unfortunately it happens all the time, and you may have to stand up to special education personnel for the good of your child.

IDEA gives children with disabilities equal educational opportunity, which means a full school day. I have often said that if parents of children without disabilities found out there child was to leave school early for transportation, they would be outraged. But parents of special needs children are supposed to accept it. Do not accept it, stand up for your child.

This article has given you a lot of good information about transportation, that you can use to benefit your child's education.

JoAnn Collins is the mother of two adults with disabilities, and has helped families navigate the special eduation system, as an advocate, for over 15 years. Your child is bright and will be going to college, so the time to start planning is now. Many parents begin planning for college early to create an education savings account for their child's education. How to save for your child's education is the big question that is asked, as there are many different ways to save for educational purposes. One potential problem with an education savings account is taxation and asset responsibility as it pertains to financial aid eligibility.

There are some different methods parents and grandparents can use to save for a child's education. It's important to consider taxation, eligibility and growth aspects of the different savings plans. Many financial advisors recommend plans that are more aggressive and risky in the early childhood years, but converting over to more conservative tactics in the years that are closer to the start of college. One reason is that there is less money to risk in the beginning, so higher risk investments are acceptable. In years closer to the start of college, any education savings account risks should be minimized to conserve the larger amount of savings accumulated.

There are four major methods used to fund college expenses:

1. Savings plans - Coverdell Education Savings Account (CESA), state operated Section 529 college savings plan, UGMA/UTMA custodial account, traditional or Roth IRA, 401(k)
2. Investments - stocks, savings bonds, life insurance, trust funds
3. Borrowed cash - loans
4. Grants, gifts and scholarship money - government and other scholarship programs

Some savings plans jeopardize the child's ability to qualify for various grants, gifts or scholarships based on need because the savings create too much in the way of assets in the child's name. This is where a registered financial planner can help with decision-making with regard to the various types of savings plans. In simple terms, savings earn interest while borrowing costs interest. College tuition savings plans should be set up so that the greatest tax advantages are realized. Saving can cut costs by about half the costs of borrowing, especially when savings accounts are started when the child is born.

Common recommendations about college tuition savings include:

1. Start early
2. Invest carefully
3. Diversify investments
4. Keep in parent names
5. Avoid capital gains shortly prior to college
6. Use tax-advantaged accounts

Some precautions include keeping college tuition savings assets in the parent's names. If accounts are in the child's name, once they reach the age of majority, they can do whatever they wish with the accounts. Tax rates may also be more favorable if assets remain in the parent's names. High assets in the child's name may negatively affect applications for aid, grants or gifts. Students can file for assistance using FAFSA, the Free Application for Federal Student Aid. All college tuition savings plans are subject to future changes that Congress may implement; always work closely with your financial advisor to deal with changes.

No matter which course of savings you select, the objective is to have sufficient money ready to pay for college expenses that are jumping higher at roughly twice the rate of ordinary inflation. Careful planning and consultation with a registered financial advisor can help you deal early with potential problems so that this worthy goal can be achieved on best terms. The whole point of it is to teach your child with the help of a video activity. The goal is for the child to enjoy what he is doing, but still learn the necessary skills it has to offer.

Children's games are often less complicated. The video game design in Adult online simulations tend to focus on teaching multiple principles and skills while children's ones focus on one skill at a time. Some games are designed to elevate a child's reading skills, while others help a child advance in math.

These games can be played on a number of different devices. Some are played on computers, some games are bought at the store and others are played online. You also have a choice of playing them on hand held devices. The most popular games are played on devices like the Nintendo WI and the Xbox.

The latest trend now days are hand held devices designed to teach children how to read. The games are in the form of books that children can read along with, and touch the screen to hear the spoken words. Some of the games even teach children aspects of math and science.

There are and endless amount of games on the internet and they teach children all kinds of skills. Some games teach them basic computer skills while others offer in depth teaching on more specific topics. There are games that even teach kids building skills, planning skills and even how to run a city.

These games should be viewed as an added advantage to schools. Children can come home and go over a lesson they learnt at school. If the child is studying reading, they can play a reading activity on the computer, this helps the child learn more and reinforces what he already learnt at school. Children learn by repetition, so what better tool to teach them than a computer activity that repeats itself, by the child simply pressing, start. Game development schools are also coming up for this purpose.

These games can be used in addition to the school curriculum. Game design training is something that teachers should be sent for and game design education should be introduced across the board. It has been said that some children learn better from these types of games rather than from the teacher talking them through lessons. While traditional teaching should remain the fundamental part of teaching, innovative teaching like computer games should be incorporated as part of the learning process. Children who who excel in these games should be rewarded, this will simply encourage the child to continue playing and learning.

Teachers are recognizing the benefits of entertainment software and the advantages it brings to the teaching world. These games can be so much more than just that. It is also a priceless educational tool that has no limits. This is something that is inevitable as technology remains a trade mark of the twenty first century.

Video game education is taking teaching to a new level and those who embrace it, will reap the benefits there of. This is the new trend in educating children and also business environments. Programs for video game design are available online.

Looking to capitalize on your creative gifts? It is being able to put yourself in someone else's shoes, look at what is happening to them and try to understand how they might be feeling.

Why is this important to teach children empathy?

Well if your child is a more empathetic person they will most likely be less inclined to become a bully.

So what can you do to teach them empathy?

1) One of the things that you can do as a parent right from the start is to create a family code of conduct - this will help your children to understand the difference between right and wrong and how to treat others. And when the right moments arise have little lessons about the right way to treat others and why. If they are mean, get them to think about if someone was mean to them, how it might make them feel.

2) One of the really important things to remember is that you are a role model and that your children learn a lot from you - by your own actions you can teach children empathy.

As an adult show acts of kindness to others without expecting anything in return and let your children see this - talk about why you showed kindness. Maybe even as a family have a goal to do one random act of kindness every week - whether that is for a family member or someone outside of the family. Give them the opportunity to decide what that random act of kindness might be - they will soon learn that being kind to others actually makes them feel really good too.

One of the stories that I remember being told (I'm not sure who this was) - was when a little boy was given 20 helium balloons and he wanted to keep them all to himself. But his father decided to teach him the important lesson of what it felt like to give something away and not expect anything in return. So he took his son to a retirement home and the boy gave out all of the balloons except for one. That day the boy experienced the power of giving, the power of what it was like to give to another person. And when he gave he received just as much in return.

3) Another thing you can do is teach your children to have the mindset of 'how can I make a difference?'

It might be that if they see bullying happening or if they see someone who needs help, their attitude is not to run away or to stand there and laugh but think about how they can help the situation. You can talk about the different ways of doing this - whether it be going to get help or stepping in and supporting the student.

By teaching your children empathy you are teaching them to be able to put themselves in someone else's shoes, to try and understand how whatever is happening to them is making them feel. From this will grow a compassion for others.

If you can build these qualities into your children - you will most likely find that they will not become bullies but will be children that will step in and help, that care a lot, and that are known for the amazing qualities that they have.

For more information on 'How to help your child if they are being bullied' - check out - It's Time To Stop The Bullying ebook.

Bullying No More: Working together with both parents and schools to help Break the Cycle of Bullying.

The Benefits of Bible Stories for Children

At Christian bookstore sites online, you will find a wide range of educational Bible stories for children. These stories help children to grow mentally and spiritually. It is a great educational solution to teach children how to overcome problems by allowing the young ones to see how Jesus and various Biblical figures handled different situations.

Many of the Bible stories for children include books, videos, voice overs, online books, audio, guides, and other written documents that include images, content, and even steps for children to follow. There are no limits to your child's learning. With so many Bible stories in so many different formats, how do you choose?

Choosing Appropriate Stories

When it comes to choosing stories for children that come from the Bible, it pays to find stories rich with scripture to verify the story. Your child can use the scriptures to reference the books and audio videos. It will encourage your child to use the Bible more often to find out more information about Jesus and His followers.

When you encourage children to read the Bible, it builds strong spiritual habits. Your child can build spirituality by reading about the lives of Biblical characters and learning the principles of their faith. Children can learn about other characters, such as Job, Rachel, Paul, and other leaders. They will learn how Biblical characters played a role in building the church and spreading the faith all over the world.

Stories from the Bible are conscience building tools. Children who read the Bible become aware of their surroundings, and the actions that occur in our world today. The child can discover ways to handle problems in their own lives and build their faith.

Learning about the Bible and sin can help your child develop conscious behaviors to help them grow spiritually and increase their faith. Parents can download PDF files, iPod files, and voice overs, books, guides, and other spiritual tools on the Internet to help their children learn and grow.

Some of the stories you will find include Jacob and his deceiver, God's test of Abraham's faith, Noah and the Great Flood, and guides that teach them the creation story. There are no limits to what your child can learn from Bible stories for children. Let your child learn about Moses and how he brought the Israelites to the promised land. Take your child into Gideon's army, and allow him or her to team up with inspiring Biblical characters. Walk with Jesus and His disciples in stories designed for children.

Are you looking for Bible stories for children? They aspire to have children who have the skills to contribute to their own well-being and to the well-being of their families and community. There is no magic bullet for developing these capacities in children. Literally thousands of programs have been developed to support families in their efforts to help children to become competent, confident, caring young people who have positive social connections and good characters.

Children have the potential to succeed in life and contribute to society. However, not all children get the support they need to thrive. By all estimates, an astounding 17.6 million young people - nearly half the population between 10 and 18 years of age - live in situations that put them at risk of not living up to their potential. Without immediate intervention by caring adults, they could make choices that undermine their futures. The presence of caring adults offering support, advice, friendship, reinforcement and constructive examples has proved to be powerful tools for helping young people fulfill their potential.

Mentoring is a structured and trusting relationship that brings young people together with caring individuals who offer guidance, support and encouragement aimed at developing the competence and character of the mentee. A mentor is an adult who, along with the parents, help young people bring out strengths that are already there. They are good listeners, compassionate and teach children how to live an honorable life. A mentor is not a foster parent, therapist, parole officer, or cool peer. The role of a mentor is not to "fix" young people but rather to help them achieve their full potential. Enforcing competence, confidence, connection, character, caring, and contribution to self and society, help develop a child into a productive and respectful adult in later years.

A mentor's main purpose is to help a young person define individual goals and find ways to achieve them. Since the expectations of each child will vary, the mentor's job is to encourage the development of a flexible relationship that responds to the young person's needs. Using influence and resources as a decision maker, adults can bring new hope to young lives through the power of mentoring. A mentor encourages positive choices, promotes high self-esteem, teaches respect for oneself and family, supports academic achievement, and introduces the young person to new ideas. Youth who meet regularly with their mentors are 46% less likely than their peers to start using illegal drugs and 27% less likely to start drinking alcohol (Public/Private Ventures study of Big Brothers Big Sisters). About 40% of teenager's waking hours are spent without any companionship or supervision. Mentors provide children and teens with a valuable place to spend free time. Children learn to make thoughtful choices, fulfill their commitments, acknowledge their mistakes and account for their actions. By taking control of their lives, children realize they can achieve more than they ever dreamed possible.

I encourage you to think of the mentors in your own life-a coach, teacher, or another caring adult, and take a few minutes to consider all the contributions they made in your life during your developing years. I know throughout my own adult life and business career, I have been greatly rewarded by years of mentoring children and young adults into productive, happy individuals that are successful in life. Children need someone to believe in them. Often times, children lack the attention needed to reinforce morals, values and self esteem on a daily basis. It makes all the difference in the world during times of indecision in their lives to have that reinforcement. Mentoring develops children into young adults who have confidence, determination and self-awareness.

Mentoring is recognized throughout the US as an important part of a child's life and some states have already proposed legislation to the Senate. The Coalition of State Mentoring Partnerships has worked closely with Capitol Hill staff and Senators to advocate this legislation. The Mentoring for All Act 2008 (S. 3200) is one of the most significant legislation actions to benefit mentoring. Please call; send emails or letters to your Senators urging support for the bill.

Denise Dema is a Business and Life Management Coach with over 20 years experience empowering individuals, entrepreneurs and business owners to attain self-defined success in their professional & personal lives. They are special in many ways and kids especially look forward to Christmas presents. Making your children's Christmas gifts fun and educational is always a bright idea. You can find creative, educational and traditional toys that inspire kids to take up hobbies and useful activities. Learning your children's interests and preferences is always a good start. Choosing a gift for your kids is not just exciting but it should be also responsible. Many parents think giving kids cool gadgets and expensive toys would make them happy. Kids may love this kind of gifts but what's really important is giving a thoughtful gift that carries much more meaning.

You can find creative gifts with smarter spending. Thoughtful gifts do not cost a lot of money but the effects last longer. When you give holiday gifts to your kids, they should be appropriate for their age. Gift your kids things they can occupy themselves with and learn as they play. Toddlers of 12-18 months love moving objects, things that make sounds, opening and closing objects and toys you can turn and move. Blocks are ideal for kids at this age. Sorting them teaches kids about colour, size and dexterity. Large blocks with soft fabric and foam filled vinyl are safe to play with. They should not be easily breakable as toddlers tend to swallow small pieces. Toddlers are naturally curious and want to touch and explore. Give educational toys for Christmas to make them more meaningful.

Pre-schoolers are imaginative and the gifts you give them should be able to stimulate their imagination. Arts and crafts are important presents that help them learn as they grow. Castles, playhouses, puppet theatres, painting and drawing, unit blocks, square boxes, folding buildings and colouring items are useful presents for them. Older kids can be gifted with all kinds of creative gifts from woodcraft constructions to magic trick sets. From knitting kits to puzzles, give educational toys for Christmas and help them learn while playing. Children of age 9 and above take more interest in games and more exciting playthings. You do not have to spend a lot of money to buy a thoughtful gift and what you buy young children can influence them in many ways. Therefore it is crucial to make positive influences through the gifts. Christmas is just around the corner and if you are planning children's Christmas gifts, remember to make them creative, age-appropriate and educational.

For all your children's gifts and to give educational toys for Christmas, visit Crafts4Kids, the one place that incorporates arts, education, creativity and fun in all their products. Not only does a trampoline encourage exciting bonding time with friends and family but it also serves as an excellent tool for exercise. Kids and teenagers love to show family and friends their trampoline tricks. Trampolines can provide fun memories that will last a lifetime.

With modern day technology, such as video games, computers, and cell phones, it is sometimes difficult to get children outside and to get them active. Trampolines get kids excited about playing outside. By being outdoors children get Vitamin D from sunlight, which assists with healthy bone growth. This means that children are getting healthier through exercising and gaining Vitamin D while enjoying themselves.

Children who jump on trampolines can improve their balance, agility, rhythm, and timing skills, which will aid them in other areas of their lives, such as athletics, dance and simple activities of daily life. Jumping on a trampoline also strengthens your child's heart by increasing circulation, which is obviously important because your heart is the most important muscle in your body. A stronger heart lasts longer! In addition to the health benefits previously mentioned, trampoline exercise has been proven to increase bone density, which strengthens the jumper's bones. This is especially important to young, growing children who need strong bones.

Trampolines are the perfect tool for hyperactive kids. A trampoline provides them with a fun, safe place to alleviate all of their stress or energy. This can be helpful not only to the child but also to parents. During the school year it is important for kids to have a place to release their energy after sitting in a stuffy classroom all day and during the summer kids need a trampoline so they can enjoy the warm weather.

Children have numerous options of what to they can do on a trampoline. It allows them to expand their imagination and creativity. They can make-up games to play, try new tricks, perform in front of friends and family using the trampoline as a stage, exercise, uses it as an outdoor rest place, and more. Of course there is always the option for them to just bounce around, which is something all children love to do anyways.

Trampolines with an enclosure system are always recommended to guarantee the optimum level of safety. Accidents on trampolines are rare, but it is always best to take every precaution possible, especially with young children. A common goal of most parents is providing children with safe fun while being able to witness their experience. Trampolines make this simple goal possible for all parents to achieve.

Richard Miller is marketing manager at Fun Spot Trampolines and promotes its services Worldwide, Company that specializes in trampoline, trampoline parts and other accessories.

How Children Can Benefit From Dance Lessons

There are a number of reasons kids take dance classes. First and foremost, kids enjoy them because they're fun. The right teacher will be able to make the lesson an enjoyable one for kids of all ages. However, fun isn't the only reason kids should participate in these classes. Smart parents know there are a number of hidden benefits to dancing. If you're thinking about signing your son or daughter up for lessons, consider these benefits.

Dance Classes Help Children Stay Active

America is in the middle of a national obesity epidemic and many schools have cut valuable programs like physical education due to budget cuts. Additionally, strict educational goals that must be met have left little time for recess. Couple this with the overuse of electronic gadgets like video games, computers and more and today's children are more sedentary than ever before. Dance classes help keep kids moving in an age appropriate, non-competitive way through movements that help improve range of motion, strength and endurance. Most importantly, dancing is a fun way to stay active. Children who are having a good time will be more likely to stick with the activity, whether it's soccer or a ballet class.

A Ballet Class Can Teach Grace And Help With Coordination

Dance lessons, but especially a ballet class, can help teach gracefulness, reduce clumsiness and improve coordination as the children learn specific movements. Lessons, whether in a private or group setting, also help develop a child's spatial awareness, while allowing them to move with imagination. Smart teachers will know how to draw out shy students and help them become comfortable and confident while going through the movements, so don't be afraid to put a timid child in classes.

Dance Classes Can Foster An Appreciation For The Arts And Music

Dancing is one of the earliest art forms that kids can appreciate. When small kids hear music, it's not uncommon for them to start dancing. Being encouraged to move in sync with music helps foster an early appreciation for both art forms. Some of the most successful business people in the country were involved in music and dance lessons when they were younger. The discipline associated with taking formal classes helps later in life and some studies suggest that exposure to music and dancing can even improve cognition as a child grows up.

Dance Lessons Focus On Teamwork

In today's society, children are expected to be more competitive with each other than ever before. Dancing, with the exception of solo performances, is largely a team effort that requires kids to work together and coordinate their movements. Children will learn to work together and many teachers and parents report that the more experienced children can actually take an active role in helping those that aren't quite as skilled.

Dancing is an excellent way to keep kids active, while improving their coordination and appreciation for music and dancing. Additionally, group lessons help foster a sense of teamwork, which is an excellent lesson for children of any age. To see how dancing can help your child, consider looking into local schools to find one that fits for you.

A Step Above Dance Academy offers dance classes in Batavia, IL. The school offers a number of different dance lessons in Batavia for students of all ages. Read to your babies and teach them reading at a very early age. Reading books will take your child on adventures and expand their imagination. Flying through outer space, exploring other planets, sailing the high seas, and even exploring the ocean bottoms will keep your children curious and wanting to learn more. This will keep them seeking knowledge for a lifetime. Buy your children new books often.

Our children will be the the future leaders of our planet. They will become the politicians, teachers, scientists, and inventors. Prepare your children for a great future by teaching them the value of books, the imagination, and curiosity. Take them to the library at an early age and get them their very first library card. Think of the excitement and the wonder in their eyes at all the books in the library. Explain to them that along with the freedom of taking these books home, they are responsible for the care of the books and the knowledge inside of them. Returning these books in the condition they received them will protect the knowledge for others to enjoy in the future.

Buying ebooks for your children online is another great way for them to expand their knowledge. You can download ebook readers for free from many different sources including Barnes and Noble, and Amazon for your PC or laptop. A lot of ebooks are available for free and others for around one dollar. A very good price for knowledge. There are also many readers available at reasonable prices that will hold hundreds of books at once. A lot of these readers have some games and tools that can be installed on them too.

In the future, children books might not even be books at all. Perhaps there will be advancements in technology that will enable your child to absorb the knowledge directly to their brain by using some type of radio frequency or light waves. Imagine the speed that a book could be read at this rate. It is possible that hundreds of books could be retained in a single day. Schools could become obsolete as learning could be done at home to save millions in transportation cost. Whichever way our future goes, our children will be the ones to make these decisions. Teach them to read early, help them develop their imagination, and keep buying them books.

Children and Motorhomes

Have you ever noticed how children love motorhomes, caravans or camping? Whenever a child comes either to collect our motorhome for hire or is staying with us in our motorhome they are simply in heaven. Whether it is the miniature 'Doll's House' scenario, everything you need to live in such a small space, I'm not sure. For families motor homing is a reasonably priced way to spend time together and live an outdoor lifestyle with a lot of creature comforts.

For us, the over cab bed is always a hit with children, something about having to climb a ladder to bed (like bunk beds) and the fact the view is so high (when otherwise, perhaps, children's' visual perspective on life is at a much lower level). The fact they have their own private space - with their own light and curtained privacy, I don't know, but of course the clip up 'safety net' which ensures that both the children and parents feel safer and no accidents.

When we were children and my brother slept on his single hammock bed (something which drew much envy from me), my parents always had to tie a loose strap around his middle to stop him turning over in his sleep too enthusiastically and thus flipping himself out of bed - no such problems with the safety net.

At the moment my friend and I are thinking what to do at October half term as 8 year old Anna is desperate to have a trip in the motorhome after her Mum and I went to Yorkshire two years ago in the motorhome to the 21st birthday of one of our Godchildren. I think the arrival of both of us in a motorhome after so long has gone down in family folklore to be retold on numerous occasions in the future.

Apart from the appeal of motorhome living compared to hotels, the outdoor lifestyle is ideal for children, most campsites have play areas, they can run around, often taking their bikes and meet and play with new friends in a pretty safe environment - the battle is usually getting them to come in to eat or at night to go to bed and I don't remember it being any different when we were children either.

So for parents or grandparent's motor homing provides a comfortable environment for a family holiday whether wet or cold some days, and for children it's a holiday of adventure and freedom to explore new surroundings with new friends and they simply love it!

If you would like to try you and your children out in a motorhome and see how they like it, why not get a quote for a motorhome rental holiday?

Drawing Cartoon Children Using Correct Proportions

When drawing cartoon children, rather than adults, the big differentiator is the proportion of the body to head size ratios. Ok, when drawing real life you need to get these ratios close on, but when drawing cartoons you can exaggerate the differences so the viewer really 'gets it'.

This may sound a bit difficult if you are not familiar with the standard proportions of the human body - and that's true of most budding cartoonists. So, to start with, it helps to understand what the ratios are, and then learn them, so that you can apply an appropriate amount of exaggeration to suit your drawing objective. In this article I'll describe how to measure the proportions and what the different values are for the range of people from babies of one year old thru to full adult.

The ratio measurement starts from the size of the head. That is the distance from the top of the skull to the bottom of the chin with the head held level. This is your basic measurement of a 'head'.

Remember that these are all approximations. We all have seen people with what are called 'long faces' whose heads seem too long for their body. Sometimes you see the opposite, someone with a small head for their size and age, though that is rarer. So what follows describes the average situation.

Also, because you are cartooning, you have a greater freedom to exaggerate; I'll come back to this later.

So, starting from our 'head' size a fully grown adult will be eight heads tall. That dimension, as for all the ones that follow, includes the character's real head!

For a baby the figure is quite different. The figure is around four heads tall overall. Babies are born with heads that are larger in relation to their body. That's because brains grow much less compared to the body as a child grows from a baby to an adult. So, the ratio is an indicator to an observer of the child's age. The closer to the ration of 8:1 then the closer to an adult will be assumed by your viewer.

The following list gives you the realistic proportions for a child as it grows into an adult.

Baby of 1 year of age - Four heads
Confident toddler of three years - Five heads
School starter of five years - Six heads
Senior school starter of eleven years - Seven heads
Adult, say 18 plus, eight heads.

For ages in between just make an estimate based on these landmark figures.

When you are drawing cartoons it helps to exaggerate these differences. So it is quite common and acceptable for a cartoon baby to have an overall height of 2½ 'heads' rather than the official ration of 4. This is quite acceptable as it is the head and face that are normally the more important elements of your cartoon.

Making the cartoon children's heads larger in proportion to the body allows facial expressions to be drawn more clearly and the larger size draws the viewer's attention to those key expressions that can make or break your cartoon.

Claim your free tips about learning to draw cartoon children. The resources Tony provides there have been helping budding cartoonists get up and running for over five years. http://www.draw-a-cartoon.com

Stuttering In Children

Stuttering is a problem that affects three million Americans. Most people begin to stutter when they are children. Stuttering in children will begin to stutter between the ages of three and five years old. For many children, stuttering will be a very short-lived thing. Children will often stutter as they begin to develop their language skills. Most children will just grow out of it after a short season of stuttering. It is estimated that between five and seven percent of children will stutter when they are developing their language skills. However, 1% or less of adults struggle with stuttering.

Stuttering in children will most likely begin when the child is between 18 and 24 months old. It will start out with them having a harder time putting sentences together. For most children these struggles will be short-lived and will only last for a few weeks and at most several months. Children will have mostly outgrown stuttering by the time that they are five years old. If a child continues to have trouble speaking after several months, then a parent should consider seeking out a speech pathologist.

Most parents are encouraged to not try to interrupt their child or to try to help their child out when they are going through this phase. Parents should be very supportive of their children at this time in their lives and not get upset if their child begins to stutter on a few words.

A parent should not have his child repeat words or try to have him slow down when the child is talking. The parent's job should be to let the child work out the stuttering for himself. The more the parent tries to correct the stuttering or bring a lot of attention to the stuttering the greater the risk that the child will of continue to struggle with stuttering when he needs not to. It is best to ignore the stuttering and let it work its own self out.

Stuttering in children will affect twice as many boys and girls. Girls are less apt to go through a stage early in life when they struggle with stuttering.

Many children who are at a greater risk of continued stuttering after they face the typical period in life when most children stutter are those that have a family history of stuttering. Other factors of children who continue to stutter after this time in their lives is that they will be highly sensitive and could have some very strong and pronounced traits of a perfectionist. This child could also very easily get upset at the smallest things. Stuttering in children is common thing and most will outgrow it.

Family and parental counseling can in some cases pull the plug on a child's stuttering problem. Some people might think that games and toys don't have anything to do with this but it actually has some purpose. There should always be a balance between study and play. Both should not be deprived to a child. Toys and games can be a way for kids to be developed and learn other than providing entertainment. Actually, letting kids play with the right type of toys and games can provide them with a foundation in their education. At their early age, you can give them a good start.

The values toys and games provide are almost similar with other. This is even though there are a lot of play things that are available for your child in the market. By nature many children are curious. When parents are able to provide them with the right toys to play with, the kids can keep their interest the whole day. If this is not done so, on the other hand, they may likely look for a way to amuse their self thus they may end up cluttering or even destroying some important things at home. They may even be subject to accidents, so it is always good to keep things that might cause this.

One of the best ways to keep children from doing this is to provide them with toys to play with. Educational toys are some of the items that can be given to children. Here are some of the benefits that can be acquired from it.

The common benefit is that kids can enjoy and have fun from playing. When a child enjoys a toy or a game, he will keep playing with it. As parents, you should remember that in choosing a toy for your child, the enjoyment the kid may get should be considered. Also, you might consider toys that get his interest.

Motor and cognitive skills are likely to be developed. Puzzles and number games are some of the toys that have the ability to provide this. A kid's cognitive skills can be developed because of the fact that he will find ways on how to complete a puzzle. As for the motor skills, it can be developed because the coordination of the eyes and hands will be needed in solving a jigsaw puzzle.

Kids can also develop their creativity through the right type of toys. Their reasoning and perception can likely be developed. Toys like LEGO can develop their creativity for they can be able to come up with a certain image in their mind. This is a good thing to provide kids at an early age. Because of this, they can be ready to face the common things to meet when they start to study.

Social and emotional development is also likely to be developed through toys and games. This is true especially for group games. Kids will be able to meet new people and as they interact with them, they can create new friends. When they win or lose, their emotional aspects are affected.

These are just some of the benefits that can be acquired from toys and games.

Melody Andes enjoys writing for Sensoryedge.com which sells classroom rugs and kids sleeping bags as well as a host of additional products.

Earn Your Master Degree from the Comfort of Your Home

Do you want to get a master degree but you don’t have time to go to a local university? Parents sometimes hire tutors, but for the most part, parents play the primary role in teaching. The reasons for homeschooling are diverse, but often include religious or political beliefs, or simply a concern for the quality of learning in conventional schools. No matter the reason, it is imperative that home-schooled children have an enriched environment to nurture crucial developmental skills.

Enriching the Home Environment

Because traditional schooling is rich in environmental stimuli, parents wishing to home school their children strive to compensate for this deficit. Learning approaches that engage the child and keep learning interesting are often highly effective means of environmental enrichment. The play to learn approach, in which children teach themselves important developmental skills through play, is an excellent way to enrich the home environment and accelerate early childhood development and learning.

Educational Toys as Learning Tools

Parents also strive to keep their children motivated to learn, and to instill a strong sense of self-esteem in home schooled children. Children are also easily distracted, so it is imperative to keep them engaged in learning. Educational toys are very effective, as they are stimulating to children, and make learning enjoyable. They also help children to extend their imaginations, and can lead to more effective learning. Home school parents often find it very helpful to include them as a part of their children's curriculum to keep things fresh and to foster a good attitude.

What Home School Parents Should Look For

Not all educational toys are created equal. Some are more effective than others both in engaging children's attention and in building important skill sets. It is often helpful for these toys to present a style of learning that is structured and comprehensive, but that also keeps children motivated and having fun. Often those toys that are modular in design, and that can teach many different skill sets are particularly useful to home school parents.

What Educational Toys Should Teach Children

Educational toys should be enjoyable, but should also be designed with the intent to develop a particular skill set. It is important for the toy to be structured and geared around a target age group because children pass different developmental milestones as they progress through childhood. For children under 5, they should focus on building a foundation skill set that will be supportive of more advanced learning later on. Important skills are visual perception, shape and color recognition, concentration, memorization and basic linguistic skills. As children progress in their development, it is important to enrich for more advanced skill sets. Toys for children over age 5 should focus on more complex and advanced developmental skills. Important skills at this age are critical thinking, abstract thinking, logical thinking, math, geometry, linguistic, pattern recognition, associative and memorization skills.

Home schooling can be a wonderful gift that parents give their children. It allows for parents to nurture their children in the abilities and subject areas that they find to be the most important. Parents are also able to enrich their children's environment in order to strengthen important skill sets, and educational toys represent a powerful and effective means to do so.

http://www.learntoachievestore.com/help/how-to-play-miniluk.html

5 Tips on How to Prepare For Your Kids' College Education

How to Keep School Children on TaskMany kids only start thinking about college education when they reach high school. Parents even admit that they get so frustrated by their child's inability to stay on task that they often end up doing their child's homework just to help the problem go away!

There could be many reasons why a child finds it difficult to stay on task. Children find it difficult to stay on task when the task is boring and repetitive or they don't know why they have to do it. Children who have a poor sense of responsibility may not take ownership of the task and wait until someone does it for them. But the main reason children find it difficult to stay on task is because they don't understand what they have to do.

The problem is that when children don't finish their work they miss important learning opportunities and may never get the grades they deserve. So, rather than nagging your child to complete a task or even doing it yourself here are some things you can do if your child finds it difficult to stay on task.

1. Make sure that your child knows what they have to do.
Try asking your child these questions;
* What do you need to do?
* What can you do to solve this problem?
* Are you sure you know how to do this?
* Do you need any help?

2. Set a goal.
Children quickly get off task when they are unsure about what result they are aiming for. Make sure that your child understands the goal of any piece of work. The goal may be to write five pages, finish a worksheet, plan a project, study for a test. Make sure that you child will recognize when he or she has reached this goal.

3. Help your child set up steps to reach the goal.
Students need to see how small steps can help them reach big goals. When your child can see small steps that he knows he can do he will not be overwhelmed by the larger task.

4. Celebrate each step.
Check lists are good for this. Write out the steps your child has to go through and check them off when they are completed. This provides your child with the encouragement he needs to go to the next step.

5. Keep a record of progress.
Nothing succeeds like success. Keep a list of all the tasks your child has completed. That way he will know that he can stay on task and that he can get his work done.

If, after trying all these steps, your child still has difficulty staying on task the chances are that he or she has a learning difficulty of some kind. You need to discover what it is and what you can do about it so that your child can get back to learning as soon as possible.

Dr. Patricia Porter is an educational consultant who specializes in working with parents who are concerned about their child's education and want to know how they can help your child learn in the most efficient, effective ways possible.

If you are interested in knowing more download her free 'Parent Starter Kit' at http://www.leading2learning.com.

Children's Book Publishing

Children's books are among the top selling books in the publishing business. It's no wonder. Children have loved stories for thousands of years, passed down through the centuries by their parents. Haven't you made up an entertaining tale for a child somewhere along the way?

Today, children's story books have the most fantastic illustrations, with glitter, pop-ups and hologram effects which can certainly capture the attention of any child. Parents can't resist these books and friends and family members love to give them as gifts to young children. So, the children's book publishing market is booming.

In the not-too-distant past, the children's book publishing industry was dominated by the big "houses" of publishing. With net technology, graphic design software and e-book compilers, you can start your own children's book publishing company, offering both hard copy and electronic formats. If you're really on a shoestring, start out with an e-book only format.

If you're so lucky as to be both an artist and writer, you've got a lucrative, entertaining and soul-stretching online business venture just waiting out there. Enough of the starving artist!

If you're not so gifted, the worst case scenario means you'll need to hire a professional illustrator or graphic designer and an editor who can polish your story. If you're not web-savvy, you'll need a web designer as well to put your page up. If you think you've got the ideas that will appeal to your audience, your investment will be worthwhile.

One low budget advertising campaign that produces significant amounts of traffic to your site consists of articles pertaining to your product subject. For example, if you're selling a children's book telling the story of migrating whales encountering the joys and dangers of their journey, write an article targeted to educational sites. Write a piece that shows you've done your homework, have accurate facts and have a passion for your subject.

Your subtle advertisement is contained in your byline. "Mary Jones writes children's books, specializing in animal stories and ancient myths. Mary's books are widely admired for their accurate depictions..." You can see how you'll garner attention from potential buyers with a simple article posted on article directories.

In this scenario, another effective marketing strategy would be to submit articles to newsletters pertaining to parenting, books or children's education. Offer your article for free, the only condition being that a byline and link to your site be included.

The children's book publishing industry is making a transition to the electronic and digital world, with all the magic the new technology offers in visual pleasure for children everywhere. If you're looking for a home-based business that puts a little good in the world, think about children's book publishing.

Author has a good knowledge of the topic. For this reason, parents are being more proactive in selecting their child's educational needs. While some parents opt to send their children to school--public or private--others make the bold decision to Homeschool their children. There are three reasons for parents to Homeschool their children, which are the following:

Reason #1: Parents want to control how much their child learns in a given school year. Parents realize that in some schools children are only limited to the content that is learned in the classroom. It is not always a guarantee that their child will learn beyond the standardized curriculum so parents make the decision to Homeschool to ensure that their child is getting the education that they deserve. In addition to home schooling, parents seek out private tutors because they may not have the skill set to teach their child in a certain subject area or hire a certified teacher to design instruction for them to use at home.

Reason #2: Parents think that there are less distractions at home resulting in higher student achievement. In the classroom, there are many distractions that students must endure to learn. For example, excessive talking in the classroom is a challenge for most students and bullying is becoming more and more prevalent in all classrooms. Therefore, for the sake of their children, parents may choose to Homeschool them to ensure that they have a safe learning environment in which they can significantly increase their learning.

Reason #3: Parents want the flexibility that comes along with home schooling their children. Homeschool Parents are not always the parents who stay-at-home to teach their child. Parents are able to hire a certified teacher, private tutor, or tutoring company to Homeschool their child. In addition, there are now online schools that are available to Homeschool children and parents may opt to utilize their educational services. The point is that there are many ways that parents can choose to Homeschool their children.

Homeschooling allows parents to choose their child's school schedule. For example, a parent may decide to take their child to a doctor's appointment in the afternoon. The fact that the school schedule is flexible, the child has not missed any content because this appointment can be worked around the child's learning schedule. The bottom line is all parents want to see their child succeed in life. Since parents have control of their child's educational affairs, it is truly up to the parent to decide which educational setting is best for their children--public, private, or Homeschooling.

About the Author

Alicia Holland-Johnson, EdD, is a proud mother of two beautiful daughters and an educator with ten years of teaching experience at all levels, including university teaching. This isn't their fault. The need for more special education classes offered to these children is a necessary addition to the school system. All children have the possibility of a bright future ahead of them. All children should have an enjoyment of learning not a fear of it. It is the responsibility of the generations before theirs, the adults in this world, to see that that happens.

A special education class comes in many different forms. Basically though it is a class geared toward specific learning disabilities displayed in children and adults. These classes work with an individual in a way that best fits their learning process. Not everyone see the world in the same way, not everyone is going to pick up on things as quickly or understand them like others do. That doesn't mean it is impossible for a child or even an adult to learn new things. The possibility of being able to live an active and fulfilling life is a possibility for everyone no matter the disability they are born with. Most special education classes are focused on the major groups of disabilities such as Aspergers Autism, Dyslexia and many other learning disorders.

However, there are smaller syndromes such as ADHD that cause learning disabilities and yet these children are expected to fit in to a normal school structure and keep up with their peers. In some cases this is impossible for the child and can actually be detrimental to their education, not to mention their self-confidence and self-image. Because disabilities such as ADHD are hard to diagnose and an article of controversy amongst the medical professions, these children are often left by the way side and are the worse for it.

It doesn't take much to make an effort in helping a child with a learning disability. Patience and understanding are the key points. This of course can be difficult in public schools with large classroom sizes. Every child deserves some one on one time with the teacher. But a child with a learning disability needs a little extra of that time. This is why special education programs are so important to the health of our children's educational future. We need more teachers and more programs dedicated to the education of all children. The argument is right in that our future depends on it.

Learning should be a fun activity. Life and the world around us is always changing, always adapting and always growing. We should take an active part in it and receive enjoyment from learning from it. Having a learning disability should not keep us from doing so. Having a learning disability should not be a stigma placed on our children. It does not make them less of a person. It only means they see something differently than the rest of us. In fact, if we try looking at the world from their point of view we may even learn something. Developing a broader special education system should be a priority of the education system.

For the latest videos and training information on child development as well as books and curricula on Autism please visit childdevelopmentmedia.com.

Benefits of Educational Toys to Children

Are you looking for different types of toys to stimulate the minds of your preschoolers or toddlers? Are you confused on what type of toys to give them? Are you looking for toys to make them laugh, enjoy and learn at the same time? If so, consider the tips and suggestions mentioned below.

Selecting toys for your toddlers can be challenging because of the numerous factors to consider and several choices to select from. Despite the myriad toys found in the market, you should be cautious and careful of your choice because of the prevalence of imitation toys and those containing toxic materials.

Results of studies show that children's intelligence quotient (IQ) can be increased by more than 50 points given the right simulation during the first six years of their life. Even if your child already has some natural skills, you can further develop their skills by giving them the right educational and developmental toys. These toys can improve your child's reading skills, memory retention, motor skills, math skills and eye-hand coordination.

Researchers also found that educational toys have been proven to be beneficial to a child's early development because it can boost its emotional, social, physical and intellectual growth not only in toddlers but in children of all ages.

For those who think that educational toys only provide playtime for children, you are wrong because aside from providing fun and excitement, these toys create strong education foundation. Moreover, their hand-eye coordination, patience and understanding of causal relationships are developed.

To keep them interest in learning, parents should get the right educational toys for their children. To get the appropriate toys for them, you need to pay attention to the suggested age ranges of toys. Before buying one for your child, you should first determine their developmental needs.

Aside from proper age range, other factors that need to be considered include:

    * Size - In every toy purchase you make, be sure to examine carefully for small parts. If ever you see one, you should not buy the toy and look for another one. It is best to avoid toys containing small parts to avoid choking accident. Toddlers are known to put toys or any other things on their mouth.

    * Smell - Avoid buying toys which has a delicious or yummy smell because your child may think it is good to eat. Avoid giving them to one to two years old child because they do not know if this toy is edible or not.

    * Sharp edges - As your common sense tells you, sharp objects are dangerous to your children. It is also applicable in toy selection. It is the best option that we have if we really want to turn our backs from the traditional methods of producing energy. This is something that we have to do eventually because if we do not, then we will definitely have to say good-bye to planet earth. On a lighter note, we need not worry for now because we could still do something about it. There are numerous ways that we can implement the usage of this alternative power source in our everyday lives. However, for a person to understand, a person must also learn. That is why we are here to give you the ten things that you should know about solar power.

1. This technology is not new. The idea of harnessing power from the sun has been here since the '60s. However, the concept has not changed much. There are few upgrades that were implemented along the way but basically, it is the same and it is not going to change anytime soon.

2. Through using this power source, you will not have to worry about huge electric bills anymore. It does not matter if you use it as your sole power source or just a substation or an alternate source, it would help you lower your electric bills. This would make your lives a lot better.

3. Using solar power is not as simple as plugging into an outlet. You need to consider many things. You need to know, most importantly, the amount of power that you need to run your house like how you use to. You need to calculate your energy consumption and from that, you can then determine how you would transpose to this alternate energy source if it were even possible for you to do so.

4. It is common for villages and subdivisions to have metered electricity, which measures your consumption by time of use. You might want to check if you have these options because it would be more beneficial to a household that uses solar power.

5. If you live somewhere near the northern hemisphere of the globe, you must make your panels face south. That will maximize the way it gathers solar power. Make sure that your panels are not under a shady spot.

6. If you want to power your house with this alternative energy source, you would need about a hundred square feet of space in your rooftops.

7. Grid-tied solar systems are common in the US.

8. For grid-tied systems, back up battery packs are essential. This will be useful for you when there is power outage.

9. Solar panels are long lasting. They last for almost 30 years and each year, the quality degrades by 0.5 percent, which is a good figure.

10. Do not worry if you live on a cloudy or foggy place, you can still use it.

You got one to ten of solar power facts, now know the A-Z of solar power.

Visit us now at http://powersolarsystem.com
